EFSTATHIOS FAKIOLAS,
University of the Peloponnese – Programme coordinator
Efstathios T. Fakiolas is Associate Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science (PSIR) at the University of the Peloponnese. He holds a PhD from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London and an MA in International Relations and Strategic Studies with Merit (67%) from Lancaster University. He graduated with Distinction and summa cum laude from the Athens Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, with an MA in International Politics and Security and a BA in International Studies respectively. During his studies, he received several awards, among others, from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation, the Onassis Foundation, NATO, the MacArthur Foundation and the DAAD. Currently, in addition to academic teaching, he supervises the doctoral research of six candidates and participates in the Jean Monnet Chair EU-FP-WB, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence VisuA.L.EU and Erasmus+ KA220 d-ICT projects. Prior to his academic career, he worked for eleven years as an analyst and deputy manager in the Strategic Planning, Analysis and Investor Relations Department at ATEbank. He also worked for nearly two years in the Economic Analysis & Market Department of the Piraeus Bank Group.
He co-edited (with E. Athanasopoulou & Ch. Tsardanidis) a collection in Greek on Greece’s Foreign Policy: Choices and Expectations in the 21st Century (Athens: Papazisis, 2020), and authored How a Small State Expands. Grand Strategy and Greece’s Territorial Expansion in the Balkans and Asia Minor (New York: Nova Science, 2012). In addition to several chapter contributions, he authored or co-authored articles appeared in, among other places, East European Quarterly, European Foreign Affairs Review, European Security, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, Journal of Slavic Military Studies, Journal of Humanitarian Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Mediterranean Quarterly, Korea Journal of Defense Analysis, Perspectives on European Politics and Society, Policy Futures in Education, Southeast European and Black Sea Studies, Strategic Analysis.

NIKITAS-SPIROS KOUTSOUKIS,
Professor Nikitas-Spiros Koutsoukis passed away on 02/XII/2022.
Nikitas-Spiros Koutsoukis was Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of the Peloponnese and the initial Co-ordinator of DEAR. He had an extensive professional experience in business information systems consulting and had been researcher and co-ordinator in various funded research projects, including funding from Unilever and the EU. His research interests were multidisciplinary but evolved mostly in topics related to Decision Support, Risk Management, Information Systems and their applications in Governance.
ANASTASIA MARINOPOULOU,
Hellenic Open University
Anastasia Marinopoulou graduated from the University of Sussex, U.K. with an MA (1998) in philosophy and political theory and a PhD in philosophy and political theory (2006). The title of her doctoral thesis is The Concept of the Political in Max Horkheimer and Jürgen Habermas.
Her publications include the monograph Critical Theory and Epistemology: the Politics of Modern Thought and Science (Manchester University Press, 2017) and the edited volume Cosmopolitan Modernity in which she edited the collection of essays and authored two chapters (Peter Lang International Academic Publishers, 2015). Her doctoral thesis was published as a book entitled The Concept of the Political in Max Horkheimer and Jürgen Habermas (Nissos Academic Publishers, 2008).
Her research interests focus on philosophy and epistemology of modernity predominantly in the 19th, the 20th and 21st centuries. She is particularly interested in political philosophy and theory concerning the notions of democracy, citizenship and cosmopolitanism and in the evolution of epistemological thought. Latest research awards:
- Jean Monnet Module (teaching and research)/Erasmus+ Programme entitled Democracy at Risk: EU politics in the 21st century which is funded by the European Commission (2022-2025),
- Research Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin/Harry Ransom Center for Humanities (USA, Visiting Scholar at the Department of Philosophy, 2017) and
- Papaioannou Fellowship from the American School of Classical Studies, (2013-14).

LEONIDAS VATIKIOTIS,
PhD Economist researcher
Leonidas Vatikiotis studied Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Piraeus. His doctoral dissertation, at the Department of Sociology of Panteion University (2008), was a study on the causes of the economic crisis of 1973.
His publications in edited volumes in Greece and abroad (Italy, UK, et. al.) include mainly economic issues around energy, media and democracy.
He is teaching since 2009 as adjunct member of academic staff in Universities of Cyprus (Varna Free University and Open University) and Greece (School of National Defense of the Ministry of National Defense, University of Peloponnese and National and Kapodistrian University of Athens).
